Wknd Update:: The Decompression Addition, Just Jokes

Kelly here. So it’s the week after Burning Man, and I know several of you are in dire need of decompression. That’s Burner slang for the Burning Man offshoot parties that happen all over the country the months following the burn. I can say things like decompression and the burn now because I’ve been to the playa twice.

While I am 100% kidding about offering any information about decompressions and totes all lolz about using Burner slang, I am totally serious about all the amazing things happening in SF this weekend. Ok, and if you are seriously in need of ways to connect with your fellow dusties because you are still in shock that you need to use money again here’s a social calendar so you can find the fire spinning event nearest you.

BTW, AHDM4U is so stoked to be expanding our Wknd Updates to a city near you.  Look out for our Wknds in Mexico City, Montreal, and Miami.

Yes, you can still buy books from an actual bookstore. So get out and support a local artist and small business.  You can use the opportunity to carpool — the perfect moment to take that selfie on the new Bay Bridge.

THURSDAY // FREE // 7:30PM // PEGASUS BOOKS // MORE

And in all honesty, I’ll be off to Mount Shasta to snuggle up with my boo starting Friday morning. So, I’ll let Caitlin tell y’all what else is on AHDM4U’s social calendar for the rest of the weekend.

HI GUYS IT’S CAITLIN HERE’S FUN:

THE PHOTOG U WANNA B LIKE I fangirl on Sandy Kim’s rocker lust photography. Here is a woman who kicks it with the ATL Twins, is unafraid to document her menstrual cycle in a bedroom context, and generally captures *thee* moment, from Mission Street general stores to NYC rooftop slumber parties. Her latest show at Ever Gold Gallery opens tonight but is nonetheless part of September’s Asian Contemporary Art Week, coming to you live September 19-23.

FIND A(L) LOVER You have to love a good psych garage rock set that ends with Mac Dre, and we do. Al Lover moved to SF from North Carolina with a passel of his hip-hop crew man friends in the group Fist Fam, but when the boys largely headed back to Asheville, Al was left on his lonesome to start a wacky-in-a-good-way solo career in psych beats with a hip-hop swagger. He tours the world, but you can catch his DMT-ready set celebrating his new album release tonight at Milk Bar.

INTERNET CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY Stop saying you are Internet popular, because #yungkloutgang is laughing at you — or would be were the East Bay Twitter crew not bizzy coining half of today’s neologisms so that Azealia Banks can steal them (see: sus, linger). #HYPHYBIRTHDAY is that very rare (not rare) venture into IRL society by Klout member Jazper Albellera // @BOYTWEETSWORLDX. There are no less than three official event photographers. This is how he explains what will be happening at his show, at which the Facebook event page also mentions Chief Keef performance art. I’m reproducing this paragraph he sent to AHDM4U because I *know* how social networking works and shout-outs are hella important:

Underground party scene kings Trill Team Six and Sick Sad World from Oakland and Ham On Everything from Los Angeles join forces with viral twitterati #YungKloutGang to bring you #HYPHYBIRTHDAY, a First Fridays Art Walk event in celebration of Boy Tweets World and Starter Kit’s birthdays. Music by The Birthday Boyz, SWERVE DJs B2B BRRRANG-A-DANG, A$AP Rocky producers Friendzone, Nanosaur, Bobby Peru, Chad Salty, and a #PREDM BlogHouse Retrospective by Tron Jeremy and Adam Bawany. Also featuring performances by #1 Pony Mane, a performance art piece ‘Chief Keef Reinterpreted’ by Liv, and a very special guest. While you’re there get your nails done by Bay Area nail queens Floss Gloss, and enjoy a drink special pour hour between 9-10.  21+ to party, $5 before 9. Come feel the wavy vibes and get #plurnt with us!

20 YEARS OF 111 MINNA In the middle of bemoaning the general loss of anything of merit in San Francisco, let’s not forget to celebrate specific instances of cool things sticking around. Indie publisher Last Gasp Books has been going strong for 44 years, during which its published titles by R. Crumb, Spain Rodriguez, and the Cannabis Insanity Coloring Book. Check out this Last Gasp group show of works by its artist family, including Jeremy Fish, Sam Flores, and Brett Armory — all in celebration of another enduring indie establishment, 111 Minna gallery and art bar.

DANCE MAGIC DANCE We are required by law to tell you that this year’s Hard French Dance-Off is returning to El Rio on this lovely, sunny Saturday. We are unsure if two-time champ Olayinka Fagbayi will be jetsetting on her private plane from Nice (as cursory Internet stalkage would suggest. Last year I unwittingly blew her surprise so I’m keeping my mouth shut here), but regardless if you have not checked out the hyper-popular queer soul afternoon danceparty, this is an excellent opportunity to suss out the dance babes who have come up since the last time you shook down.

DRINK COFFEE AND EAT CHICKEN It is my goddamn website, so I have no qualms using it to tell you I’m slanging caffeine at the Ritual Roasters stand this Sunday at the weekly Presidio picnic edition of Off The Grid. You should come hang out, and also eat fried chicken because I really like the guys at Wing Wings. There is a bar, also, where you can buy “beverage kits”? I’m not sure, but come let’s find out.
