Time to shake away the winter blues babe: Chi Chi’s here with her second AHDM4U column just for you. In round two I want to talk about the latest trends, colors, tips, and of course my must-haves for Spring 2014.
Watching New York Fashion Week coverage a few days ago had me thinking — what was all the buzz on the runways back in September for springtime ’14? Chi Chi went and dug up the trend forecasting for you cosmetic queens. I guess one can say this column is a little like my version of Vogue’s September issue. So, hunnybees! Get it. Love it. HASHTAG ME.
Neon orange lips were popping up everywhere last fall on the runways of DKNY, Rag & Bone, Dsquared2 and MSGM. All that citrus was a little shocking for those expecting designers to stick to a neutral lip. I couldn’t chose just one orange lip for you so here’s my top two picks:
Maybelline Electric Orange ColorSensational Vivids Lip Color A brightened, medium-dark orange with warm, reddish undertones and a subtle sheen. We’ve definitely seen this exact orange being offered by several brands, but this is a more budget-friendly version. // GET IT
Kit Lip Paint in Paint it Orange A vivid, super-glossy texture similar to a lacquer. If you want a lip that’s giving no less than neon this is your go-to — and it will give you a smoother finish than most orange lipsticks. Tip: Apply a small dot to your brush and apply to lips. Repeat until you achieve the opaque color you want. // GET IT
Simple striped patterns These ruled on the September runways, and can easily be recreated by amateurs. Take, for example this green windowpane design spotted at Tracy Reese’s showing. The designer’s nail polish collaboration with Sally Hansen (including the colors seen here) doesn’t hit stores until March, but a similar look is easy to achieve with Sally Hansen’s nail art pen. // GET IT
Easter parade polishes Big for Spring 2014. I chose Dior’s Porcelaine from this year’s spring collection. Why you ask? Well like all Dior’s regular polishes, this came with the signature wide applicator brush which is great for quick and easy application for DIY mani ladies. It’s also not runny or thick. What’s nice about this light cream polish is this has a little streaking with the first coat, but by the second coat it totally goes opaque with the streaking corrected. Which can be very difficult with lighter cream shades. // GET IT
Three looks that I love that made it big on the runways back in September and are setting the bar for spring 2014 into summer:
Marc Jacobs, Marc By Marc
Blue eyes Last September blue ruled — a solid color that showed everywhere from Badgley Mischka to Marc Jacobs. The look is a big statement, but it so easy to achieve. Apply color from your lash line to crease with a flat brush. Remember, the more intense the color the bolder the look. To really turn up the intensity, color your whole lid with white eyeliner before applying shadow — it acts as primer and gives the color an amazing canvas. My fave blue shadow right now is Outremer from Nars. // GET IT
Pastels What is spring without Easter and pastels? Per usual, the soft hues ruled the September runways. Top designers Badgley, Prada, Giorgio Armani, Rochas and Costello Tagliapietra all strutted out models dusted in halos of pastel shadow. What does Chi Chi like about this look though? Just like the blue, it’s simple: one bold color covers you from lashline to crease or even higher on the face. The white eyeliner-primer trick works for pastels too. I just bought Dior’s 234 Pastel Fontanges Eye palette. It comes with five different shades of pastels, all on trend. So much easier then buying single shadows and in the end will totally save you money! // GET IT
Tired of the traditional cat eye makeup? A small change can bring new feeling! This variation on your standard cat eye is more interesting, and very easy to implement. A classic with a twist. Geometric eyes were a total hit on September runways. Rodarte, Roksanda Illincic, Celine, Haider Ackermann, and Saint Laurent all had their models in this chic look and is totally #trending right now.
Stay posted for the next issue of Chi Chi’s Beauty Salon, in which I’ll teach you how to do this revamped classic cateye look, and share my top liner picks. Get it. Love it. HASHTAG ME
