In recent moments, AHDM4U has spent some time cogitating on dick pics. Thrust into our selfie-era societal consciousness, they bear analysis (and critique, as Caitlin pointed out for Brooklyn website Slutist) — but where, pray tell, are the vag shots? We long to live in a world where these pop up with the same frequency as phallus photos. Perhaps, if confident vaginas — presented less for the male gaze and more for sexual veritas — were more ubiquitous Republicans would better understand how rape works, or scientists would finally find the cause of PMS.
Maybe. But at any rate, a vestige of this vagina-heavy dream world is moving about the country and makes a stop in the Bay Area April 19-27. Photographer and gender activist Philip Werner may be a dude, but he’s assembled a vast array of vaginas of all hues and sizes to create “101 Vaginas”, a coffeetable book and traveling exhibit of women’s statements about their vaginas, accompanied by black and white shots of said vag.
If only to surround yourself with feminine mystique, consider making an appearance at the opening. No pun intended.
