AHDM4U has long been a fan of legendary Oakland based musician Brontez Purnell. Former member of queercore — an off shoot of punk rock coined in the mid ’80s — band Gravy Train, Purnell won the hearts of alt kids with his bad boy attitude, electric guitar and charming smile.

Current front man of The Younger Lovers, Purnell is still producing the sound of counterculture. AHDM4U visited his studio to chat about coming out, growing up queer black and punk in Alabama, and OBVS we wanted the skinny on what inspired the lyrics to The Younger Lovers song “The Boy from Leeds”. Watch Purnell and fall in love.
