Your 4U Mag editors will be in Mexico City this weekend throwing the cutest party in celebration of our 10th issue “Bey 4U” — which is why the title of this post is only the finest Mexican slang — “neta” means the truth, which is what the following events most certainly are. Please feel free to come and participate in the DF festivities, but no worries if the Bay Area has you on lock this weekend. There are hella cute things to do there too.
Drag and nightlife host Grace Tower’s weekly underwear party BULGE (10PM-2AM // $5 // POWERHOUSE // MORE) will feature gay adult entertainment star Boomer Banks (pictured above.) Yeah, Banks is really attractive and will be shaking his manly bits on the go go stand for your viewing pleasure. Guest DJ Sergio Fedasz from SF’s dynamic house duo Go Bang will be curating the evening’s sounds, and obvs there will be tons of trade trolling around in their undies too.
SF’s Eros, the gay center for sex will be hosting KINK 1O1 FOR TRANS FOLK (6PM // FREE // EROS // MORE). This class promises to be kinky and teach you a few tricks along the way. There will also be free HIV testing on site.
Yarness’s crotchet bondage designer Ryan Crowder host RIOT GRRR (9PM-2AM // FREE // THE LONE STAR SALOON // MORE) 1 year anniversary party. This party is actually the cutest because a whole bunch of gay bears celebrating riot grrrl music is kind of the best. To celebrate, the Riot Grrr crew will be raffling away 2 tickets to the sold out Sleater Kiney SF show in May. Proceeds of the raffle will be donated to SF queer youth group Lyric.
The 4U crew lives for sad boy promoter and DJ Marco da la Vega. And we are so bummed to be missing 120 MINUTES PRESENTS BRENMAR & SASHA GO HARD (10PM-2AM // $15 PRE SALE // ELBOW ROOM // MORE). Because if you listen to music you know that Brenmar is e v e r y t h i n g and Sasha Go Hard is l i f e. 120 Minutes always delivers that dark heavy bass and their crowd’s style is always on fleek.
Acclaimed author and recent mother Michelle Tea hosts another one of her amazing lit events RADAR PRESENTS NORTH BEACH UNDERGROUND (2-4PM // FREE // SF PUBLIC LIBRARY NORTH BEACH BRANCH // MORE). Events coordinator at City Lights Peter Marvalis, istorian and author of Wide Open Town: A History of Queer San Francisco to 1965 Nan Alamilla Boyd, publisher of punk fanzine Search and Destroy V Vale and director of Live Nude Girls Unite! on sex worker neighborhood history Julia Query join creative forces to tell the underground culture and story of SF’s North Beach district.
Because the 4U Mag crew loves a mysteriously detailed event, if you plan to party in the East Bay you should probably check out HELLA GAY (9PM-2AM // $ TBA // LOCATION TBA // MORE) this queer Oakland Dance party formerly located at the Uptown knows how to turn all the way up. The evening promises to host a medley of hip hop and dance DJs and obvs it’ll be hella gay.
SF drag celeb Heklina’s new weekly party MOTHER (10PM-3AM // $10 // SF OASIS // MORE) continues into it’s 2nd week. If this party is anything like the debut get there early because it’s going to be a full house. The night will feature drag numbers from all of your favorite queens doing their best pop icon renditions.
Modern Times Bookstore presents AUTHOR READING WITH BILLY KENISTON (4PM-5:30PM // FREE // MODERN TIMES BOOKSTORE // MORE). Keniston, author of Choosing to be Free: A Life Story of Rick Turner, will lead a conversation linking Turner’s efforts towards radical change during South African apartheid with the current climate of rebellion and social justice change needed in the US post Ferguson.
SF photographer Uel Renteria hosts his monthly queer performance art party UNICORN (6PM-10PM // $5 // POWER HOUSE // MORE). “Arts, beats, babes and drag” is what Uel promises. Judging by the poster design we’d say this description is fairly accurate.
