4U Mag continues our celebration of extraordinary women of color past and present for Black History Month. New York City author of Redefining Realness Janet Mock is a brilliant writer, LGBTQ activist and all-around incredible human being. Mock’s deeply personal New York Times best-selling memoir was a way to share her story about being a transgendered person of color. In 2012, Mock started the viral hashtag #girlslikeus to increase trans visibility and empower transgender women. Mock exemplifies black excellence with her courage, strength and persistence.
