WKND UPDATE :: FEB. 19-22 :: BLACK HISTORY MONTH

Thank Gaia for black feminist scholar, activist and author (to name a few of her many skills) Angela Davis. Born in 1944, Davis was at the forefront of the Black Civil Rights Movement and a member of the Black Panther Party. Not only has she fought for the rights of people of color, Davis has been an outspoken voice for against oppression and social injustices for black feminist and the LGBTQ community. And fun fact, Davis was a candidate TWICE for US Vice President of the communist party in the 80’s.

MPHD gives it at New World Order tonight.

The debut party that NEW WORLD ORDER (8PM // $14 // SLIM’S // MORE) is throwing goes down tonight. The collective says it wants to expand electronic music offerings in SF and this is a good start — the lineup includes Vin Sol, MPHD, and more.

FRIDAY

SATURDAY

BRONTEZ PURNELL DANCE COMPANY’S “IF I, JOHN HENRY” (7:30PM // $10-15 PRE SALE // DANCE BRIGADE’S DANCE MISSION // MORE) is a part of the Black Choregrapher’s Dance Festival taking place this weekend. The festival celebrates black dance, arts and culture. The Brontez Purnell Dance Company will be doing a one show performance this Saturday and it’s not to be missed. Purnell says the show will address topics of “beating the clock, man vs. machine, complaining to a shitty boss, bashing Mr. in the head, worrying about heaven later, a comment on the subject of Black Manhood (or manhood in general) being a series of endless tasks.”

Our fave pig themed party is happening tonight! Well to be honest it’s not really a pig themed party. It’s more of a metaphor for gay men getting dirty in a dive bear with house music in the background and light pig motifs like pork rinds. Join Walter Gomez, DJ Sidekick and SF drag celeb Juanita More at BEAT PIG: BARE BONES (9PM // $5 // POWER HOUSE // MORE). Gogo boys, boozy cocktails and lots of barely clothed sweaty men.

SUNDAY

Adidas Yeezy Boosts definitely not going to be available at the event below, but still cute.

Kanye’s NYFW show has us all reinvested in the three stripes, even if his post-apocalyptic full body stocking looks didn’t even sport the famous logo. You’ll find it all over the ADIDAS WAREHOUSE SALE (10AM-6PM // FREE // COW PALACE // MORE) if you’re trying to re-stock on sportswear — up to 80% off though — like we are this weekend.

SALSA SUNDAYS (3PM -8PM // $8 // EL RIO // MORE) will be happening this afternoon. There will be a live salsa band, day drinking and lots of same sex dancing ❤ This weekend’s Salsa Sunday is a benefit for St. James Infirmary and TGI Justice Project.
